All to often rescue dogs are sent back to the shelter due to allergies or growth of puppy into a larger dog that cannot be supported in the owners living environment.
We have done both at different times. Love is love when it comes to a dog. It makes no difference if he/she is long or short. Unless it comes to time when it does.
Our additions to the family were both from breeders. Jack is a min poodle, Billy a Yorkie. Since we live on a sailboat most of the year it was important to us that we get young puppies. That way we could train them to adapt to travel and sailing. Gary is a professional photographer with equipment on board that would not work well with the shedding of a dog. Also shedding fur on a small boat would have made our bilge pump undependable.

To make the transition from Breeder or Shelter be prepared. Have a location for crate .
A spill puppy proof food bowl nothing worse than walking on hard kibble or sliding through water on the floor.We had one puppy that would empty his food dish then fall asleep in it.
A Play area scoped out in your living area. If bringing a puppy home examine the area as you would if it were a toddler.
Puppy proof your eclectic cords, use puppy gates for stairs, use puppy gates to restrict certain area.
We used a play pen for the first few weeks. Puppies are just that puppies and for safety they need to be watched constantly or protected in a pen as below. No matter where you get them from dog rescue or breeder they all get into mischief.
