Understanding the difference between a Holistic veterinarian and a Regular veterinarian, as well as the concept of Veterinary Homeopathy,.
Alternative Veterinary Medicine for Dogs.
Who would have thought that within the span of just one week, I would be pleasantly surprised when not one, but two of my dear friends shared with me their imminent visits to veterinarians, albeit for different reasons. Remarkably, these were friends I had maintained close contact with ever since my days as a breeder for Standard Poodles. Curiosity piqued my interest upon discovering that they had both opted for different types of veterinarians. It was then that I realized I had never truly explored the significance of selecting an alternative veterinarian, despite hearing and reading snippets about them. Motivated by this newfound curiosity, I embarked on a journey of research to uncover what valuable insights I had been missing out on.
Regular Veterinarians
Regular veterinarians primarily focus on treating specific symptoms or ailments that your pet may have. They use conventional medicine and therapies, such as medications and surgery, to address these issues. They take a targeted approach to fix what’s wrong and get your furry friend back on track. A conventional vet primarily relies on pharmaceuticals and surgery. In other words a veterinarian, also known as a traditional or conventional vet, is a medical professional who has completed a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and is licensed to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries in animals. They follow evidence-based medicine and use conventional treatments such as pharmaceutical drugs and surgical procedures to address health issues in animals.
Holistic Veterinarians
Holistic veterinarians take a more comprehensive approach. They consider not only the physical health of your pet but also their overall well-being and even their environment. Holistic veterinarians aim to understand the root cause of any health issues rather than simply treating the symptoms. By believing that by addressing the underlying imbalances, they can help your pet achieve long-term health and wellness. Holistic vets often emphasize preventive care, nutrition, and natural remedies to support the body’s innate healing abilities.
On the other hand,
A holistic vet, also known as an integrative or Alternative Veterinary . A veterinarian who incorporates alternative and complementary therapies into their practice in addition to conventional medicine. They may have additional training or certifications in holistic modalities. Such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, chiropractic care, homeopathy, and nutrition. Holistic vets take a more holistic approach to animal health. They consider the whole animal and focusing on promoting overall wellness rather than just treating symptoms. Holistic veterinarians carefully evaluate the animal’s physical, emotional, and behavioral aspects. Then create a customized treatment plan. This approach aims to support the body’s natural healing processes, without causing any harm or negative side effects.
Veterinary Homeopathy.
Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine that has been around for centuries. It’s based on the principle of “like cures like,” which means that a substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy individual. Can also help treat similar symptoms in a sick person or animal. Alternative Veterinary Homeopathy applies this principle to animals. It uses highly diluted natural substances, like plants, minerals, and even animal sources, to stimulate the body’s self-healing abilities. The goal is to restore balance and promote overall health. With Veterinary Homeopathy, the treatment is tailored individually to each pet.
Does it all mean? Alternative Veterinary
In summary, regular veterinarians focus on treating symptoms directly, while holistic veterinarians consider a broader approach to address the underlying causes of illness. Veterinary Homeopathy is a specific branch of holistic veterinary medicine that utilizes natural substances to support the body’s healing powers. They all are Alternative Veterinary.
It’s important to note that both conventional, holistic and Homeopathy vets have their own merits and can work together to provide the best care for animals. The choice between Alternative Veterinary depends on the individual pet owner’s preferences, beliefs, and the specific needs of their pet.
We have been lucky (knock on wood) with the health of both our dogs. I know diet has a lot to do with that. Read about my thoughts on it here.
My Thoughts on: Alternative Veterinary Medicine for Dogs
In a way I follow a bit of all three. I don’t think I would ever give up my regular Vet. To much invested in his and my history of my dogs. However I am interested enough to find out more. Let me know in the comments below if you have ever used an alternative Vet. Your experience and your thoughts.
