Is Affiliate Marketing a fad?
Affiliate Marketing or Bust!
In the world of affiliate marketing, it’s easy to get caught up in the promises of a stable income and quick sales. But the reality is often quite different. My husband Gary and I decided to give affiliate marketing a try in June, after retiring from our previous careers in destination wedding planning and professional photography. We had experience in marketing and sales, so we thought we had a good chance at success.
In the beginning of our journey into Affiliate marketing.
We started by launching our own platform for affiliate marketing and advertising. We watched several videos on the subject, all promising great results. Gary a professional Photographer had his online gallery of Wall Art that we wanted to promote, and I had started a blog website focused on our lifestyle and travel experiences. We were excited to dive into this new venture.

How we started
Our main focus was on Pinterest as an advertising platform. We already had an active account from my wedding planning days, so we thought it would be a good place to start. We spent hours each day creating pins, writing blogs, researching products and blog topics, and optimizing our website for SEO.
As soon as we started pinning ads for items from Amazon and Garyfelton.com, we saw an increase in our stats. Impressions, engagements, and outgoing clicks were all on the rise. But there was one crucial thing missing: sales. Not a single one. Gary was still able to sell his prints, but that was nothing out of the ordinary. His sales didn’t increase or decline from the past twenty years.
Can you make $10,000 a month with affiliate marketing?
What went wrong or is it all boulder dash?
We tried to figure out what went wrong. Find out which products and why they are good to promote . Maybe our content didn’t resonate with anyone, as the affiliate gurus often say. Or maybe our pins weren’t up to par. Or maybe we didn’t pin enough, or pinned too much, or pinned at the wrong time of day. The list of potential reasons seemed endless.
But the truth is, we don’t really know why we haven’t made any sales related to affiliate marketing. It could be a combination of all the factors mentioned above, or it could be something else entirely. All we know is that we’re not giving up just yet.
Our plan is to stick with affiliate marketing until December. While most affiliate marketing videos promote immediate sales with little time invested, some acknowledge that it can take months before seeing any results. So we’re willing to give it a fair shot and see where it takes us.
Can you really make money?

Going forward our affiliate marketing strategy
In the meantime, we’ll continue creating pins, writing blogs, and researching products and topics. We’ll keep optimizing our website for SEO and exploring affiliate marketing statistics with other advertising platforms like Google ads, Facebook, and Instagram. We’ll try different strategies and see what works best for us.
Affiliate marketing may not be the quick and easy income source that some make it out to be, but we’re determined to make it work. We have the experience in marketing and sales, and we believe in the potential of this industry. So we’ll keep pushing forward, learning from our mistakes, and hopefully, eventually, seeing those sales come in.
If you’re interested in affiliate marketing, we encourage you to give it a try. Just be prepared for the possibility that it may take time , effort and money before you see any results. But with persistence and a willingness to learn and adapt, it’s may be possible to succeed in this field.
