Six healthy additions you can add to your dog’s kibble.
These Six Healthy Additions to Kibble options are what you can do while traveling with your dog or at home to enhance their nutrition and overall health.
Kibble maybe the only choice some owners have. Below are ways you can help make it a bit more enjoyable for your dog.
You can add cooked lean meats like chicken, turkey, or beef as additions to kibble to provide additional protein. Make sure to remove any bones, skin, and excess fat before adding it to your dog’s food. I put this at the top because of its importance. When possible we add raw Protein. However living on a Sailboat in the Caribbean or traveling via RV that is not always possible.
Steamed or pureed vegetables such as carrots, green beans, peas, or sweet potatoes can be added to provide vitamins, minerals, and fiber always great additions to kibble.
Ensure they are cooked thoroughly to aid digestion when made as additions to kibble. Stay away from beans. It has been discovered that beans maybe adding to heart problems in dogs. When Sailing and fresh is not always available I use canned mix veggies. Not a long term solution but great for travel in RV or Sailing.
Some fruits like apples, blueberries, or bananas can be added in small amounts as a healthy treat. Remember to remove any seeds, pits, or skins that may be toxic to dogs.
In addition to kibble in our family we used apples and blueberries as a reward for tricks or when running an Agility track. I found by accident that my Jack loves frozen blueberries. (So do I).
love to grab a handful for a treat now for both of us.
4. Fish oil:
Adding a small amount of fish oil (such as salmon or krill oil) can provide omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for your dog’s skin, coat, and joint health. Consult your veterinarian for the appropriate dosage when making them as additions to kibble. Watch on the dosage of fish oil. Start out small and gradually add more to desire dosage, that’s why I like the liquid.
We used it for all our show dogs and now I use it for Jack and Billy. The benefits of it for show dogs besides the joint health are the shinning thick coats. Made grooming a show dog so much easier to have a health looking coat.
5. Yogurt or cottage cheese:
These dairy products can be added in small amounts to provide probiotics and calcium. Ensure your dog is not lactose intolerant before adding dairy to their diet. Cottage cheese and or Yogurt have two benefits. If God forbid you puppy or dog gets sick either of these two can help if they are off the kibble. I just mix a 1/4 cup to my kibble but to tell the truth my poodle like it separate, which is fine too.
6. Eggs are always healthy additions to kibble
Cooked eggs can be a good source of protein and essential fatty acids as additions to kibble. They can be scrambled or boiled and added to your dog’s kibble. I do this every morning. Scramble an egg with a tablespoon of water or milk. Cool then add to a small amount of kibble.
Remember to introduce any new additions gradually and monitor your dog’s response. If you have any concerns or questions about your dog’s diet, it’s always best to consult with a veterinarian for personalized advice.
we have found that it is almost impossible for us not use kibble.
Our lifestyle is not typical, meaning we can not just get into car and go to stores when out of kibble, dog food, raw dog food or freeze dried. Which we use all of them in rotation see how we manage to make it work Best Dog food
